The dispute centres over distribution of ballot papers, which went only to a minority of members. Union leadership say that papers went to everyone who was not more than six month in arrears with their dues.
Last month the certification officer ruled that the election of Alan Ritchie in 2009 was invalid. It stripped him of office and told Ucatt to hold new elections.
Ucatt’s executive council has now appointed northwest regional secretary George Guy as acting general secretary on an interim basis.
