Mr Short was previously northern regional organiser for Ucatt until he became unwell after being wrongly accused by union leadership of submitting fictitious membership applications.
Mr Short, of Bedlington, Northumberland, claimed that the investigation into the allegations damaged his health, causing him to develop a sever stammer and depression.
The Northern Echo reports that during the hearing, Mr Short accused his bosses at Ucatt of condoning widespread corruption and fraud within the union. He said so-called sweetheart agreements between the union and employers were common practice - companies would pay the union dues of members and in return the union would turn a blind eye to employment abuses, he claimed. These accusations were rejected by union bosses.
The tribunal also upheld Mr Short’s claims of disability discrimination. Damages will be decided at a later date.
