UK dominates international access awards

19 Apr 11 Sussex-based rental company Facelift Access Hire has won an international award for being “consistently innovative”.

Facelift was named access rental company of the year in the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPAs) in Amsterdam last week. The judges said that Facelift "showed an exceptional performance in a challenging year. It has produced an acclaimed safety guide and has been consistently innovative with creative and unique marketing reflecting the company's character.”

The contribution to safe working at height award was given to ZT Safety Systems, also from Sussex, for an innovative safety harness “that has the potential to save lives, whose ease of use will encourage people to adopt it, and which improves and reduces the risks associated with conventional models”.

The award for outstanding after sales service was won by Shropshire’s Independent Parts & Service (IPS).

Access project of the year was Harsco Infrastructure Services’ Heron Tower project in London.

There were also lifetime achievement awards for Paul Adorian, the founder and former managing director of theInternational Powered Access Federation (IPAF), and Pierre Saubot of French manufacturer Haulotte.

The IPAF safety champion award went to Kevin O’Shea of US-based Mastclimbers, for the second year running.

There were also four product of the year awards. The self-propelled category was won by MEC Aerial Platforms’ Titan Boom. The vehicle/trailer-mounted category was won by CTE for its B-Lift 20.13 truck-mount. Alimak Hek’s Scando 650 won the mast climbing/hoist category. The low-level access product of the year was Custom Equipment’s HB-830 scissor lift. The judges also presented a highly commended citation to Oil & Steel/HCNL for the Snake 2714 compact in the vehicle-mounted category.
