URS team wins $2.2bn contract for atomic legacy clean-up

3 May 11 A URS-led team has won a contract to provide remediation and clean-up services at the former Manhattan Project nuclear site.

The East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, consists of a number of industrial facilities originally used to support the Manhattan Project during World War II.

The contract with the US Department of Energy has an initial five-year term, followed by a four-year option period, and has a maximum value of US$2.2bn (£1.3bn) to the team, assuming the option is exercised.

The contractor team includes URS Energy & Construction and CH2M Hill Constructors. Restoration Servicesis providing subcontractor services as well. Under the terms of the contract, the team will manage and execute clean-up work at ETTP, providing decontamination and decommissioning services.

"We are pleased that the Department of Energy is confident in our team's ability to successfully execute this work, which will contribute to the cleanup of the Oak Ridge Site,” said URS president, energy and construction, Tom Zarges.
