US Army gives Jacobs $65m role

11 May 11 A joint venture of Jacobs Engineering and Huitt-Zollars has won a US$65m (£40m) contract from the US Army Corps of Engineers for construction services within the southwest region.

The work is primarily the Fort Bliss army post near El Paso, Texas, where more than 34,000 soldiers and their families are projected to be stationed by 2013.

The US$5bn Fort Bliss expansion programme encompasses over 4,500 acres of green field development, 1,000 acres of major upgrades to the airfield area and multiple infill projects scattered across 3,000 acres.

Jacobs has been working on aspects of the programme for the past four years. “We are truly honoured to be able to continue delivering services in support of the Army, the soldiers and their families by providing construction phase services on facilities that are expected to enhance their training and the quality of life,” said Jacobs group vice president Tom McDuffie.
