Ventilation Ductwork Manufacture Goes Lean at Hargreaves

28 Mar 11 The ventilation ductwork manufacturing business of Senior Hargreaves has undergone a quiet revolution.

One of Bury’s oldest companies, Hargreaves has completed a major redevelopment of their Lord Street site.  They have added 28,000 square feet of new manufacturing space and initiated other radical changes in the business.

“To maintain our competitive edge we have invested heavily in lean manufacturing, aided by leading consultants in the field, The Manufacturing Institute,” explained managing director, Kevin White. “This has enabled us to consolidate our operations on a single site and streamline production to achieve higher efficiency.”

Hargreaves is one of the first North West companies to achieve the ISO14001 environmental standard.  This requires a commitment to review and revise operations to continuously improve environmental performance, reducing waste streams, energy inputs and CO2 emissions.  The company has further investment planned.  New product ranges and a new strategy for apprenticeships and employee development will ensure it has the skills to support future growth.

“The disposal of surplus land and buildings has strengthened the company; we have a strong forward order book and have the experience and capability to service sectors of the economy, such as nuclear, research and transportation, where there are major capital projects underway and in the pipeline.  We are therefore confident that we will continue to be a major private sector employer in the town for decades to come,” concluded Kevin White.

Senior Hargreaves ventilation ductwork products play a key role in maintaining safe, comfortable and productive environments in offices, laboratories and advanced manufacturing establishments throughout the UK.
