Vinci and McAlpine seal £40m Harbour deal

19 Mar 13 Integrated Health Projects (IHP), a joint venture between Vinci Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, has been awarded a £40m contract in Blackpool.

IHP will build a mental health inpatient unit, called The Harbour, for the Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Now that contracts have been signed to secure the land, building work will begin on site at the beginning of April.

Construction is scheduled to finish by the end of 2014 to have the unit operational by spring 2015. The development will have a total of 154 beds including a psychiatric intensive care unit.

Alistair Rose, the Trust’s project director, said: “We are delighted that contracts have been signed to both purchase the land and for construction work to begin on The Harbour, the new mental health inpatient unit in Blackpool, on the Fylde Coast. This takes us one step closer to realising the trust’s ambition to replace its existing mental health wards across Lancashire with purpose designed, modern and high-quality inpatient accommodation.”

IHP regional director Mark Thomas said: “We are delighted to continue our longstanding partnership with the trust through this hugely significant contract. The unit will greatly enhance the treatment on offer to patients during their much needed recovery. The combined expertise of the trust and our team will ensure The Harbour is a leading mental health facility that Lancashire can be proud of.”
