Vinci buys Canadian contractor

6 Jan 12 Vinci subsidiary Eurovia has signed an agreement to acquire Carmacks, a group of companies based in Edmonton, Alberta.

Carmacks carries out highway construction and maintenance works as well as operating and maintaining road infrastructure under long-term contracts in Edmonton and Calgary. It has traditionally been active with local public authorities but has also developed a portfolio of private sector clients.

Carmacks generates revenue of about C$200m ((£127m)) and is active throughout the Canadian province of Alberta, which is experiencing rapid economic growth.

With this acquisition, Eurovia will now operate in three Canadian provinces - Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec.

The transaction is subject to approval by the Canadian competition authorities.
