Wates expands Nottingham primary school

15 Feb 13 Wates Construction has started work on a £5.2m renovation of Forest Fields Primary School in Nottingham.

The work, due for completion in December 2013, will see the school grow from two-form entry to a three-form entry, increasing capacity from 420 to 630 pupils.

Work includes refurbishment of an adjacent Grade II-listed former grammar school building called the The Berridge Centre, which will be converted to become a 1,610-square-metre four-storey extension to the existing school buildings.

Wates business manager Andy Hand said: “The Berridge Centre is a structure of local importance and we are delighted to be applying our 40 years of heritage expertise to create an exceptional educational facility. As population rises it is necessary to commission the expansion of school buildings and Forest Fields is a great example of how this can be done by incorporating an existing building, particularly one which has a rich history in education.”

The project was procured via the East Midlands Property Alliance framework, managed by Scape. Scape is a local authority controlled company set up to help public sector clients save time and money in delivering their construction projects.
