Macob Property Holdings Ltd, including Macob Ltd, Macob Southern Ltd, Macob Civil Engineering Ltd, Macob Administration Ltd, Macob Developments Ltd and Macob Training & Safety Services Ltd are all in administration. John Kelly and Nigel Price of insolvency specialist Begbies Traynor were appointed as joint administrators on Tuesday.

Macob Group was established in 1981 and at recent peak had 400 staff and a £40m turnover.

More recently, however, "the prevailing trading conditions have made it impossible for the contracting companies to win work at viable rates," said chairman John Roberts.

John Kelly for the administrators said: "We're still in the stages of making initial assessments but every effort will be made to ensure all assets are realised and that maximum recoveries are achieved for the creditors."

High-profile projects have included two public private partnership projects – St David’s Hospital, Cardiff and Pembroke Dock Community School, Pembroke – as well as a 200,000 sq ft warehouse facility for L’Oreal at Llantrisant, 250,000 sq ft of offices at Greenmeadow Springs, Coryton and the purchase and sale of 140 acres of residential land at Broadlands, Bridgend.
