The scheme will provide improved access to the hospital and 958 additional car parking spaces.
Total project cost for the Blackpool Fylde & Wyre NHS Trust is £16.4m, with capital being borrowed from the Department of Health and paid back from income generated by retail and parking charges.
As well as improved access, Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s new entrance will include a pharmacy, retail units, café, main reception, waiting area and office accommodation. It will be the main hospital access point for most patients, visitors and staff, apart from those using the Emergency Department and the Delivery Unit who will continue to use present entry points.
The move to create a new multi-storey car park providing nearly 1,000 extra places will cater for public parking needs, with staff having access to spaces on the upper floors. The scheme also involves a redesign of the internal road layout and traffic light controls.
