Under the contract, worth £33m over its duration, Osborne will also bring empty properties back into use. The contractor will also look after a small number of council buildings including the Grade II listed Guildhall.

The work varies from fixing a dripping tap to major structural repairs. It includes keeping the homes well looked after for existing residents and preparing empty properties for new residents, as well as day to day repairs and other associated works, and the provision of a 24 hour, 365 days a year call out service.

The company said that one of the challenges was to prepare empty properties for use quickly so that the council can house new residents, and reduce re-letting times and tenant waiting lists.

Osborne property services managing director Nick Sterling said: “At Osborne our aim is to deliver ‘right first time’ repairs, quality workmanship, customer-focussed service and value for money. We hope that the residents in Winchester will benefit from our UK wide experience of making sure that we deliver the best possible service to the people we look after.”
