FK Lowry delivers piling on Scottish flood alleviation project

FK Lowry designed and installed 265 600mm diameter continuous flight auger (CFA) piles to depths of up to 15m.

Piles were installed conventionally and then a permanent steel liner was carefully inserted into the top of the pile. The permanent steel liner was designed to offer additional corrosion protection and to mitigate the risk of concrete wash out over the top 4m of the piles.

FK Lowry mobilised one of their Soilmec SR-75 dual purpose bored piling rigs to the project.

The additional torque and crowd force from the piling rig enabled FK Lowry to found piles into the top of the bedrock.

Piling Director, Sam Pyper explains, "This project for our client, McLaughlin & Harvey, wasn’t without its challenges. Not only were we operating on a tight and restricted site but we were also working in a residential area. Therefore, material and plant deliveries to site had to be carefully managed so as not to create a nuisance to local residents. We are delighted with the outcome of the scheme and look forward to successfully delivering similar type projects across Scotland"
