Anti-entrapment device specified on Basildon school project

22 Feb 13 Powered access platform hire company AFI has supplied its SanctuaryZone anti-entrapment device, together with powered access units, for the safety of steel erectors on a new school under construction in Basildon, Essex.

PDF Services hired a pair of 16-metre Haulotte boom lifts from AFI fitted with the SanctuaryZone anti-entrapment device. It also purchased two further SanctuaryZone kits to fit onto its own Genie booms for work at the Woodlands School in Basildon.

PDF Services managing director Paul Frampton said: “The main contractors stipulated that an anti-entrapment device should always be used on site when working at height and we opted for SanctuaryZone. It worked well on the contract.”

AFI major projects technical manager John Robertson said: "We have evidence from other sites of at least one incident where a SanctuaryZone device has suffered an impact. Therefore it has possibly prevented a serious injury or worse. Without SanctuaryZone installed there could have been a potential crushing incident. The system did what it was supposed to do and took the force of the impact while at the same time keeping the operator completely protected and safe."
