Apollo breaks new ground for ‘myplace’ youth centre

8 Mar 11 Apollo joined Councillors and young people from Havering for a ground breaking ceremony at the site of a new ‘my place’ centre in Harold Hill.

The multi-million pound centre, funded by a grant from the Big Lottery fund andcontributions from Havering Council and the Veolia ES Cleanaway Havering Riverside Trust, is part of the Government’s ‘my place’ programme designed to create world class youth facilities across the UK.

The centre, being built by Apollo on behalf of Havering Council, will be constructed to be sustainable and energy efficient, with solar panels, natural light and ventilation, high insulation values and timber sourced from sustainable forests.

Young people who attended the ground breaking ceremony have been heavily involved in the design process of the centre, working closely with architects from Jacobs.
