John Armitt, chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, is to be knighted, while ODA construction director Howard Shiplee is awarded a CBE.
Despite building billions of pounds worth of infrastructure on time, broadly on budget and with impressive records in safety and industrial relations, no other construction professionals on the Olympic project are deemed worthy of recognition.
James Wates’ work as chairman of CITB-ConstructionSkills is rewarded with a CBE. Ruby McGregor-Smith, chief executive of facilities management contractor Mitie, also gets a CBE.
There are OBEs for: Fiona MacGregor, head of affordable housing at the Homes & Communities Agency; Graham Manly, business development director of Gratte Brothers for services to the building services sector; Neil Bruce, executive director and chief operating officer of Amec, for services to engineering; and Tom Foulkes, past director general of the Institution of Civil Engineers, also for services to engineering.
MBEs are awarded to: Mark Bew, director of consulting engineer URS Scott Wilson, for services to contruction; David Harris, divisional managing director of Cowlin Construction, for services to education and training in the construction industry; and Arup director Faith Wainwright, for services to the built environment and engineering professions.
The building products and materials sector is represented by Keith Lambourne, export director of ACO Group, and Jayne Law, sales manager of Dow Building Solutions, both of whom receive an MBE.
