Natural slate producer Welsh Slate has launched a range of roof bat vents suitable for all 17 of the species protected by law.
Available in slate from the company’s Penrhyn and Cwt-y-Bugail quarries and in a range of sizes, the bat vent provides a weatherproof path from the roof exterior to interior. It comprises an exterior vacuum-formed weathering cowl to allow bats to enter into the body of the slate, combined with an injection-moulded under-base unit with a factory-applied non-slip surface to help the bat into the roof space.
The company reminds contractors that if operations have already started when bats or their roosts are discovered, work must stop and the relevant statutory nature conservation organisation be contacted.
