BBA secures first UKTA licence

4 Jan 22 The British Board of Agrément (BBA) has been licensed by government to issue UK technical assessments (UKTAs) – the first organisation in the UK to gain this approval.

The announcement comes at a critical time for construction product manufacturers, importers and distributors in Great Britain who have just a year to prepare their businesses for the switch from Conformité Européenne (CE) marking to the new United Kingdom Conformity Assessed (UKCA) mark.

As part of this process, European technical assessments (ETAs) will be replaced by UKTAs, with approved UK-based technical assessment bodies (TABs) required to assess products for the UK market.

BBA chief executive Hardy Giesler said: “We are delighted to have been approved as the first UK TAB able to issue UKTAs to our clients. This important milestone enables us to respond quickly to the urgent needs of our clients who have been waiting to progress their ETA to UKTA transition for well over 12 months. Our team has worked hard on this, building relationships with other organisations such as the European Organisation for Technical Assessment (EOTA). We look forward to continuing to serve our industry throughout this transition.”
