There have been reports of incomplete safety barriers and loose nuts on guard rails on the 41.58km bridge. The reports blamed a rushed opening to ensure completion in time for the Communist Party’s 90th anniversary.
The structure is the world's longest cross-sea bridge, taking the record from the Hangzhou Bay Bridge. The Y-shaped crossing connects the port city of Qingdao with Huangdao and an airport.
It has been built for Shandong Hi-speed (SDHS) and was opened last week in a ceremony attended led by local and regional officials.
