The stakes were previously held by Anglo American directly or indirectly in the six companies, which are jointly owned or operated with a number of major partners - Al Futtaim, Al Zawawi and Midmac. The companies specialise in road construction and the production of construction aggregates and asphalt.
The acquisitions are in line with Colas’ development strategy in the Middle East. Combined, the companies, backed by 900 employees, produce 7.5 million tonnes of aggregates and 1.6 million tonnes of asphalt mix per year via three quarries and 10 asphalt plants. Global revenue totals roughly €150m (£112m), of which Colas’ share amounts to €80m.
