CWO was unable to survive long enough to see the construction industry’s recovery take root.

Ken Touhey of Worthing-based Insolvency & Recovery Ltd (IRL) and Andrew Duncan of Leonard Curtis were appointed joint administrators on 5th March 2014 to manage the affairs, business and assets of the company.

Also in administration is John C Lillywhite Ltd, also based in Chichester, and taken over by CWO in 2012.

According to his LinkedIn profile, CWO managing director Bernard Burns has this month joined rival stonemasonry specialist Szerelmey as director of business development.

CWO specialises in historic masonry repair and restoration work. It was originally founded in 1965 to undertake the restoration of the Norman Cathedral at Chichester in West Sussex. It developed into an independent organisation considered to be one of the country's leading stonemasonry and restoration companies.

More recent projects include repairs to the fire-damaged Windsor Castle and a 2010 restoration of the Eastern Arm of Chichester Cathedral’s Cloisters and adjoining St Faith’s House. Both projects were recognised in the Stone Federation’s annual awards schemes.

It has also worked on projects at the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and Hampton Court.

In 2011 it had a turnover of £10m, nine shareholders and more than 115 staff, mostly form the Chichester area.

The administrators can be contacted on tel: 01903 239313.
