Build UK member companies will open live construction sites and offices to the public, enabling the public to go ‘behind the hoardings’. The primary target audience is schoolchildren and students, to show them the variety of careers available in the industry.
The 2016 Open Doors event saw more than 3,000 visitors to 138 construction sites across Great Britain. The organisers are hoping for even more in 2017 and are seeking to encourage construction companies to get involved.
Build UK chief executive Suzannah Nichol said: “Open Doors is a fantastic initiative which helps tackle our skills challenges by demonstrating the huge impact of the industry on the UK’s economy and local communities. We are extremely proud of achieving record numbers as well as some fantastic feedback this year, and are being even more ambitious for next year’s event.”
