This 5.6-tonne machine, powered by a Yanmar Stage IIIB engine, is the first of its kind in the UK and only the third off the production line in South Korea.

DSB bought the excavator for use on a railway embankment stabilisation project for main contractor Amco Rail in Mount Bures, near Colchester. The new mini will be used on the railway for fencing, drainage and embankment work.

The R55-9A’s redesigned hydraulic system includes an arm flow summation system, boom holding system and a swing parking brake. The pump flow control has also been improved, and improved spool values provide more precise flow to each function, Hyundai says. Structural improvements include stronger but slimmer tubing in the cabin for improved visibility, and low-stress, high-strength steel integrally welded for a stronger upper and lower frame.

Counterweight rear guards protect the engine hood, and a boom cylinder cover protects the cylinder.
