EC Harris lands key contract on Qatar medical city

5 Mar 12 EC Harris has been appointed by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to deliver the next phase in the development of Hamad Medical City in Qatar.

The complex is set to be the Middle East’s largest-ever healthcare facility. When launched in 2003, the total cost of the whole project was QR3.2bn (£556m). The next phase of the project will see four new facilities completed including a medicine and rehabilitation hospital, an ambulatory and surgical centre, a women’s hospital and a complete teaching and research complex, which will cover a combined area of 25,000m2.  The buildings will be situated adjacent to the existing Hamad hospitals and HMC residential accommodation in the centre of Doha, on the site where the athlete village was located during the 2006 Asian Games.

EC Harris will provide project and programme management, design management and workforce planning services for the new complex. It will be responsible for overall leadership and co-ordination of the project, with input on areas ranging from the completion of design drawings through to assessing the number of staff that will be required once the project is complete.

EC Harris global account leader Conor Ellis said: “Hamad Medical Corporation has consistently looked to provide excellent healthcare services to the people of Qatar. The latest development of Hamad Medical City is further evidence of this ongoing commitment as the state of the art facilities will not only facilitate clinical and research developments but also help Qatar in their efforts to recruit and retain the best available staff.”
