Manchester City Football Club wants to add 14,000 seats to its stadium, originally built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games. This would take its capacity from 47,620 to 62,170, making it the Premier League’s second biggest stadium, after Old Trafford, across the other side of the city.

The council's planning committee meets to decide on the application next Thursday, 13th February. A report submitted to the committee recommends it is approved, the Manchester Evening News has reported.

Construction would involve the addition of a new third tier to the South and North Stands.
