GB Building Solutions making a difference to older people in Stevenage

3 Feb 11 GB Building Solutions has been awarded a £6 million care home for Quantum Care in Stevenage.

This negotiated scheme will consist of 90 one bed en-suite facilities adding to the range of services already provided by Quantum Care for more than 3,000 older people across Hertfordshire and Essex.

The new home is a partnership project between Hertfordshire County Council and Quantum Care, and will replace the current Newhaven care home in Drakes Drive.  It has been designed to care for older people with a variety of short and long term care needs and will have specially designed living spaces for people with dementia, as well as for those with physical disabilities. It has also been designed with the local community in mind, and will feature a ‘Best Friends’ café which will enable people within the home, as well as the local community to enjoy coffee and cakes and spend time with friends.

Maria Ball, chief executive of Quantum Care, said, “This is a really exciting project and we are really pleased to be working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council to provide such a high standard of accommodation for older people in Stevenage”.

Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Building Solutions, says, “This new care home will add to GB’s vast experience in the care sector with over £250 million of care schemes undertaken in the last five years. Our track record will give Quantum Care the confidence that our team of skilled and dedicated staff will deliver the highest quality facility”.

Work started on site at the end of January 2011 with a completion due May 2012.
