This puts him in line to succeed as president in 2013.
FIB promotes the study of scientific and practical matters to advance the technical, economic, aesthetic and environmental performance of concrete construction. The organisation is based at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.
Mr Clark was project director for the award winning Gateshead Millennium Bridge and is described by Gifford as one of the country’s leading bridge designers. He joined Gifford in 1976, was appointed a director in 1992 and became chairman in 2007.
Mr Clark has been involved with FIB since 1996. He is chairman of the FIB commission for structures, a member of the commission for prestressing and reinforcement systems and deputy chairman of its technical committee. He masterminded the FIB International Symposium held in London in 2009.
He will serve for two years as FIB deputy president, after which it is expected that he will succeed current president Gyorgy Balazs, professor at the Budapest University of Technology & Economics, in January 2013.
