The award is significant for Harsco because it has been targeting the industrial maintenance sector for expansion. It also demonstrates the company’s growing multi-discipline relationship with the Tata Group, following the announcement of other recent new orders in India.
In addition, sister company Harsco Metals is already on site in Scunthorpe, providing metal recovery and material handling services to Tata’s steelmaking operations.
Instead of charging on the basis of how many scaffolders are provided for how long, Harsco proposed an approach built around the project requirements.
Tata Steel contracts manager Dave Jones said: “The development of this solutions-focused approach will be a radical change but one that will save us a lot of money.”
