The contract has a total volume of about €79.5m (£65m), with Hochtief having a €25.4m share.
The project includes the construction of two new halls, new taxiways and de-icing platforms, as well as a new landing strip, runway and apron lighting. There are particular challenges in the refurbishment and drainage of the take-off and landing strips and the runways, and in the extension of the apron with no disruption to daily airport operations.
During the roughly 16-month construction period, about 204,000m2 of concrete surfacing will be produced, approximately 56,000t of asphalt processed, and some 47,000m3 of filling material used.
The companies involved - including Hochtief Solutions Latvia and the Austria branch of Hochtief Solutions - will start work in May 2013 and complete it by August 2014.
