Icopal brings a world of building protection to Ecobuild

11 Jan 11 Icopal will be showcasing its comprehensive range of sustainable flexible weatherproofing and building protection solutions at this year’s Ecobuild.

Headlining products on the stand (S1730) will be Icopal’s newest range of roofing products; Eco-Activ®. This range works proactively with the environment, contributing positively to help minimise a building’s impact and reduce emissions. Products in the range are designed for a broad range of applications in both the domestic and non-domestic sectors. They include brands such as Noxite, IcoSun and Icopal Green Roofs.

Noxite is a flexible roof waterproofing membrane manufactured with recycled bitumen content, which is then coated with a granular titanium dioxide finish. This coating helps to transform harmful nitrogen oxides produced from industry and transport into harmless nitrates. Noxite technology is activated by ultraviolet radiation from the sun. When polluted air passes over the activated Noxite membrane, nitrogen oxide particles present are converted into harmless levels of nitrates, which are then washed away by falling rainwater.

Icopal’s Green Roof Systems can be used to create an attractive, natural roofing solution. Available in many options, including Extensive (Sedum, Meadow, Biodiverse) and Intensive systems suitable for turf, shrubs and trees. The Green Roof Systems offer a way of blending the roof design with its surrounding landscape. Icopal Green Roof Systems offer the added advantage of water attenuation to reduce flood risk, which is often a consideration during the planning phase of a building.

IcoSun presents a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) flat roof solution by way of flexible modules that can be applied directly to the Icopal waterproof membrane. The PV cells work by converting daylight into electricity. This means they will work even on a cloudy day. The DC energy produced as a result of PV is then converted into AC electricity using an inverter to provide electricity that can be used within the building immediately, stored in batteries for use overnight, or sold back to the National Grid. This provides an ideal way for organisations to take advantage of the current feed-in tariff.

“Eco-Activ® is headlining our offer at Ecobuild this year,” explains Neil Harrison, Technical Director of Icopal. “Products that reduce pollution, work to improve air quality, cut CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency most effectively are those which have been designed and developed to work proactively with the environment. Eco-Activ® represents a series of roofing solutions that specifiers, contractors and their end clients can draw upon to help improve the long-term environmental impact of an entire scheme.”

Making a return to Ecobuild this year, the Decra roof system from Icopal will also feature as an alternative solution to slate or concrete roof tiles. Meanwhile Icopal will also be showcasing a number of new and upgraded products, including its Grooves and Stripes membranes, Monartile undertile linings and Universal single ply membrane.

Universal from Icopal is a sustainable roofing membrane that is fully recyclable, making a positive contribution to the life cycle assessment of a building. The range is available in three versions, depending on the required installation technique.

With superior performance the right roofing membrane, coupled with the best installation method for the job will provide both confidence in the roof’s performance and unlimited freedom in building design.
