ISG secures Hagley Road retail development in Birmingham

21 Jan 11 ISG has commenced work on a fast-track £1.1 million project to build a new retail development at a prominent location on Hagley Road in Birmingham.

The 18,000 sq ft scheme for client Trebor Developments LLP and Hortons’ Estate Limited has already attracted strong interest from retailers, with both American Golf and the Co-Op set to take space at the new Hagley Road Retail Park.

The disused 0.9 acre site will be transformed as ISG begins the process of erecting a large single-storey steel frame structure, which will be subdivided into a number of high quality retail units. As part of the project’s groundworks phase, ISG transported a quantity of waste demolition material from the site and is re-using this at its £5.5 million swimming pool extension at Abbey Stadium Sports Centre in Redditch.

Featuring extensive glazing, as well as render and timber cladding to its façade, the new development will incorporate parking for 36 vehicles and ISG will carry out hard and soft landscaping across the site. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Jonathan Kell, ISG’s regional managing director, commented: "We are delighted to be working with Trebor Developments and Hortons’ Estate to help transform this underused piece of land into a high quality retail destination. As a business, we are constantly looking at creative ways of minimising our impact on the environment. The opportunity to reuse demolition material from the Hagley Road site on one of our nearby schemes is a prime example of how careful planning can limit the volume of waste ending up in land fill, providing both environmental and cost savings.”
