ISG to extend Redbridge schools

27 Feb 13 ISG has been awarded three primary school extension projects, with a combined value of around £5.4m, in the London Borough of Redbridge.

The schemes have all been procured through the Lewisham Modular Education Framework, which is open to use by neighbouring local authorities.

The scheme involves the construction of a two-storey, 8,600-square-foot extension at each of three Redbridge schools in the Ilford area – Chadwell Primary, Barley Lane Primary and Downshall Primary.

The schemes are all due to start on site in April, with each 19-week project sceduled for completion in time for the start of the new academic year in September. Providing additional teaching accommodation to enable the schools to increase their intake, the three classroom blocks will be constructed using a structurally insulated panels (SIPs) system to reduce the build programme and maximise the thermal efficiencies of the new structures.

ISG regional managing director Stuart Deverill said: “There is a clear and urgent requirement to enhance and expand existing school buildings to provide sufficient school places to meet growing demand. The flexible nature of the Lewisham Framework has demonstrated how important these procurement vehicles can be in fast-tracking projects to ensure schemes get to site quickly and efficiently.

“Bringing extensive live environment working expertise and a strong track record in the successful delivery of modern methods of construction, ISG built a compelling case to secure these projects with the London Borough of Redbridge. We are anticipating further opportunities in the sector given the nature of the increasing demand for school places within the region.”
