Jewson awarded prestigious health and safety certification

23 Feb 11 The St Austell Jewson branch in Cornwall has achieved the nationally recognised OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety certification, which demands the very highest standards of performance - and sets the bar for other Jewson branches to now follow.

The OHSAS 18001 certificate was developed in response to market demand for a recognised health and safety management system standard against which organisations can be assessed and certified. The decision to put forward the 4.5-acre St Austell branch for the award was due to the branch's continual improvement in health and safety performance and compliance with legislation.

Paul Shillaber Branch Manager of Jewson St Austell commented: "We are so proud to be awarded OHSAS 18001 certification. The branch has a team of 30 people who have all worked hard to make this possible. Taking into account that we are an extremely busy branch offering tool hire and mill machining services in addition to a variety of building materials it really demonstrates how significant the award is and we are delighted."

For the team at Jewson St Austell, implementing the OHSAS 18001 management system meant demonstrating efficiency throughout the services on offer. The branch also demonstrated an exceptional level of health and safety and maintained a working environment that gave ownership of responsibilities to all employees and prepared them to effectively deal with any potential hazards.
