Kier seeks Lancaster subbies

28 Sep 12 Construction suppliers and subcontractors from Lancaster are being invited to meet prospective client Kier at a ‘supplier engagement day’ on Friday 5 October.

Kier is looking for subcontractors based within a 30 mile radius of the town, who have commercial building background, to help build a new construction centre at Lancaster and Morecambe College.

This 47-week project will involve building a single storey extension and internal and external refurbishment works to an existing building. Kier is looking for trades such as: groundworks, SFS, brickwork, cladding and curtain walling, roofing, fire protection, internal partitions, plastering and ceilings, joiner, ceramic tiling, IPS panels and cubicles, decorating and soft floor finishes.

The event, being held at Lancaster and Morecambe College Sports Centre between 10am and 2pm, is being organised by Constructionline, government-owned pre-qualification certification scheme. It will give subcontractors the opportunity to meet Kier staff face-to-face to discuss working on the project and to network with other suppliers.

Constructionline business development manager Claire Makin said: “In our experience, contractors and buyers often find it hard to gain access to one another to discuss upcoming project opportunities. It’s great that Kier is looking to build a local supply chain for this big project that requires such a broad range of skills. This event is at the heart of what we do – we want to help suppliers find and secure work and make it easier for businesses to find reliable and local construction companies.”

Kier project manager Philip Shepherd said: “We are committed to supporting the economy in the areas in which we work, investing in the local workforce, suppliers and subcontractors. By Constructionline hosting this supplier engagement day, we are given the opportunity to speak to local companies in Lancaster to establish how they can support our supply chain while also providing an opportunity for them to further enhance their own business prospects. We are very proud to have been selected by the college to complete this project and look forward to working with them.”

The event is free and you do not have to be registered with Constructionline to attend. However, it is necessary to book, by emailing: supplierday.constructionline@capita.co.uk
