Lafarge Tarmac cleared to buy Tarmac Building Products

10 Apr 14 The Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) has approved Lafarge Tarmac’s acquisition of Tarmac Building Products (TBPO) from Anglo American.

The sale has now been completed. Anglo American had announced in November 2013 that it had reached an agreement to sell TBP to Lafarge Tarmac Holdings Limited, the 50:50 joint venture of Lafarge's and Anglo American's construction materials and services businesses in the UK.

The CMA decided against refering the merger for a second phase of investigation under the Enterprise Act 2002.

Cyrille Ragoucy, CEO of Lafarge Tarmac said: "We are pleased to welcome TBP into Lafarge Tarmac. TBP is recognised as a leading building materials supplier. TBP enlarges Lafarge Tarmac's offer and will help us get closer to our customers' needs. It is a close fit with our existing business and TBP clearly opens up new opportunities for Lafarge Tarmac particularly in the house-building sector.”

TBP is a supplier of heavy building products, including construction blocks, bagged aggregates and cement products.
