The Leeds University Union is a five-storey 11,000m2 building. It is in the centre of the campus, between University House and the Stage Leeds. It was built in 1937 but has been extended and refurbished several times since then.
The works comprise of a full refurbishment of the Riley Smith Hall, Raven Theatre, Mine Bar, Pulse Bar, the Lounge and Common Room, and retail area including the formation of a four storey atrium using an existing light well. A new south entrance structure is also to be built.
Planning approval was applied for in May 2015 and, with a first stage tender issue date of end August 2015, work is expected to start on site in March 2016.
An 18-month construction period has been allocated to allow handover to the university in September/October 2017.
