Professor Malcolm Cook, a specialist in building performance analysis and indoor air quality, gets the job permanently after a period as acting dean.

He has researched low energy building design and ventilation and over the years has worked on some of the world’s most innovative low energy buildings.

Professor Cook currently leads the government funded AIRBODS project – Airborne Infection Reduction through Building Operation and Design for SARS-CoV-2. The findings of the study, which will provide building ventilation advice for reducing the spread of all airborne illnesses, are due to be released later this year.

Loughborough vice-chancellor Nick Jennings said: “He has clearly demonstrated his ability to lead and guide the school during his time as acting dean, and will continue to ensure its ongoing success, as well as playing a key role in the university strategy, especially around our sustainability agenda.”
