Mammoet demonstrated the crane, designed and built in house, at an open day at its facility in Zeeland yesterday.
It is one of two new ring-mounted units developed by the company in a series of what it calls Platform Twin-ring Containerised – or PTC – cranes, designed for super-heavy lifting yet able to stow away into a series of standard sized containers for transport around the world.
The latest PTC models have rated load moments of 140,000 and 200,000 tonne-metres.
Unlike most lifting machines in this special class, the PTCs use huge winches rather than hydraulic strand jacks. Therefore the job can luff to place loads across a large area of a site, and lift and lower and greater speed.
