A large central glazed atrium will be the focal point of the three-storey, high-specification development. It will provide a range of flexible spaces including seminar rooms, a student centre, computer laboratory, graduate centre, social space and ancillary accommodation all aimed at supporting teaching and learning at the University.
The project is designed to meet BREEAM “Excellent” standards. The buildings’ concrete frame will be made from recycled aggregate from local sources. An ETFE (Ethylene TetraFlouroEthylene) foil cushion roof system will be used to allow natural light into the building. Ground source heat pumps will also be used.
This is the second contract to be recently awarded to Mansell by the University. Mansell is currently completing the Aerospace Research Centre also on University Park.
Work has recently begun on site and will complete in July 2011.
