Morgan Sindall to build new £6.1 million primary school

21 Sep 10 Construction company Morgan Sindall has been awarded a £6.1 million contract to build a new primary school in Southdene, Kirkby.

The firm is replacing the existing Park Brow Primary School in Broad Lane, which lies adjacent to the new site, with a modern learning space covering approximately 3,000m². The building is designed to create light open spaces internally with a central open-plan auditorium seating area. It is flanked on three sides by a walkway allowing access to the upper floors.

Morgan Sindall will construct covered external play decking with rendering and cladding to the external façade. The scheme will further include external sports pitches, playing fields and multi-use games area.

A number of sustainable features will be included such as a biomass boiler, natural ventilation through a mono-draught system, photovoltaic panels and a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) to prevent excess surface water from overloading the storm drains.

The project is due to be completed in August 2011.
