Ofsted rates CITB as 'outstanding'

10 Jan 13 CITB-ConstructionSkills has been given an ‘outstanding’ rating by Ofsted inspectors.

The industry training body was given top marks by the education watchdog for all three of its inspection categories: outcomes for learners; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; and effectiveness of leadership and management.

The report (www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/51170) found:

  • Outstanding learning, assessment and support strategies;
  • Highly effective training programmes enabling learners to make significant progress;
  • Outstanding personal and learning support;
  • Learners develop particularly good skills and experience through access to some outstanding training resources;
  • Leadership and management are highly effective in driving improvements to outcomes for learners;
  • Quality assurance arrangements are exceptionally effective;
  • The curriculum is extremely well planned.

CITB-ConstructionSkills employer services director Mike Bialyj said: “The construction industry has a right to expect that CITB-ConstructionSkills – the organisation it funds – will deliver cutting edge learning of the highest possible standard.  With this powerful external recognition comes enormous responsibility. The inspection outcomes and report set some demanding but exciting challenges for us as a learning provider. These challenges could have significant impact on the landscape of workplace learning. Our first task is to continue to strive to maintain the high standards we have set and ensure that outstanding performance remains an expectation, not an exception.

“We are not complacent and recognise that the investment that the construction sector makes in us means that we must continue to look for opportunities to drive up standards still further.”
