Pandrol works with main contractors across the world as a critical supply chain partner, to ensure positive growth for both parties.
In order to be considered in the International Trade category of the Queen’s Awards, Pandrol had to demonstrate a substantial and sustained increase in export earnings over three consecutive 12-month periods. The key criterion is to achieve an outstanding level of sales; both for the products and services concerned and for the size of the organisation.
For a British exporter it is vitally important to be a strong player at home. Pandrol works closely with Network Rail to meet the maintenance demands of the National railway. It also supplies the London Underground system and track renewal contractors across the country. UK sales represent around 15% of the company’s overall sales. This reflects Pandrol’s drive into overseas markets and the strength of its export-led business.
Pandrol’s growth over this period is based strongly on the long-term relationships it builds with contractor customers and their consultants. Customer and product support, both before and after sales, is a key function that plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining confidence around the world.
Donald Webster, Managing Director of Pandrol explains the importance of building close relationships with key contractors:
“It is never the case that we receive an enquiry, quote for the work and get an order. Most rail projects are very long in gestation, with a typical planning and tender phase taking around five years. During this time we have to work closely with the client, consultants, sub-contractors and other members of the supply chain to ensure the right knowledge and technical expertise supports the contractor so it can deliver the project successfully and Pandrol can drive its business forward.
