Use of a monorail is seen as idea for the mountainous route, thanks to its small turning radius and ability to handle relatively high gradients.
Construction is due to begin initial 13km section of the route is due to begin construction in the near future. Project developer BYD is reported to have spent 5 billion yuan (£604m) on researching and developing its monorail programme.
