Portakabin Hire said that it is investing £22m in new modular buildings made the Portakabin Group.
The £10m first phase of the investment has already been completed and included £3m-worth of new double classrooms for schools that need temporary teaching space while the builders are in. More than 50 classroom blocks have been added to inventory.
The second phase of new modular buildings will be manufactured and in stock before the end of the year, the company said.
The investment has resulted in an overall fleet increase of approximately 2,000 new modules – for use as single self-contained portable buildings or for interim modular buildings for hire. This represents approximately 67,000m2 of new space (725,000 square feet).
Portakabin Hire general manager Robert Snook said: “We have ambitious plans to grow the business and our continued investment in new buildings is central to that and will help us meet the increased demand for interim accommodation solutions across the UK.”
Portakabin is also investing in its hire centre estate, with a new depot in Coventry, the relocation of the Crawley Hire Centre to a larger site at Lingfield and new covered workshops and stores buildings in Merseyside and in Oldham.
