The former Cherry Knowle Hospital covers a 68 hectare site outside the village of Ryhope, Sunderland. Net developable area is 24 hectares.
The HCA bought the site from the NHS and demolition of the old hospital site started in early 2011.
The site is included as a strategic site for major housing development in Sunderland City Council's local development framework and is covered by an outline masterplan produced by the HCA in 2011.
The HCA has now published a contract notice for a developer to produce a masterplan for the site, get planning consent and deliver the project.
“It is critical that phase one, comprising a minimum of 250 units, commences development by summer 2014,” the HCA says.
