Sustainability focus for Speedy

7 Jun 11 Tool and plant hire group Speedy has developed a strategy that it says will help contractors to reduce their carbon footprint, as well as improve health, safety and efficiency.

Measures in Speedy’s One Plan sustainability strategy include a Green Options product range, sustainability consultancy, fuel management, energy and carbon reduction and waste assurance services.

Speedy is also pressing its own suppliers to keep up or risk losing out.

The company says that One Plan combines new services, supplier incentives and internal initiatives.

Suppliers have been invited to join a ‘supplier excellence programme’ where they will be advised on improving their own sustainability practices. The programme is designed to help them implement change through a mixture of workshops and on-site reviews.

Speedy supply chain director Andy Connor said: “At Speedy, sustainability isn’t just a buzz word – we place it at the heart of all we do. That’s why we’re not just going to help our customers improve their own sites; we’re also going to encourage our suppliers to do the same by providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to improve their own businesses and make best practice in these areas a condition of working with us.

“This is a collaborative approach that we hope will implement best practice at both ends of our supply chain. For our customers, One Plan offers improved efficiency, reduced costs and competitive advantage. For our suppliers, One Plan means we’re setting the bar high, and will seek to establish a long term relationship with those that take sustainability equally seriously.”
