BAM has been contracted to extend the Blackbrook Pavilion Sports Centre in Taunton.
The extension will include a 25m swimming pool, a smaller learning pool and a spa, complete with steam room, sauna and hydrotherapy pool. Changing and viewing facilities will be included, along with a new visitor café.
BAM recently completed a similar pool and leisure complex at Chilton School in nearby Bridgwater, a scheme that helped its bid for this latest project. Like there, it will have to build the Taunton extension without disrupting users of the adjacent facility.
The Taunton facility includes an option for photovoltaic cells on the existing pavilion roof, as well as use of combined heat and power boilers.
BAM construction director Craig Allen said: “We are delighted to have built on our reputation for delivering leisure pools in Somerset with this exciting new project. We will work hard to ensure the construction work benefits the local community and environment throughout the project as well as in end use.”
Work is scheduled to start on site in January 2015 and be complete by early 2016.
