Taxman swoops on Omagh fraud suspect

10 Oct 13 A man from County Tyrone has been arrested in connection with a suspected £150,000 VAT fraud linked to the construction industry.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers searched a private address in the Omagh area yesterday morning where they seized documents and a computer.

The man was questioned by HMRC officers and investigations are continuing.

HMRC assistant director John Whiting said: “HMRC takes tax fraud extremely seriously and anyone deliberately choosing to evade the taxes they owe should expect not only a heavy fine, but possibly a criminal prosecution as well.”
