Wates signs Blackburn school deal

22 Jan 13 Wates Construction has been awarded a £8m contract to build the new Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School in Blackburn.

Subject to planning approval, the contractor will begin work on the 5,200 sq m facility in May. Completion is scheduled for the new school term in September 2014.

The client is the Tauheedul Free Schools’ Trust, which also oversees several other schools.

The school, which has capacity for 700 pupils, has been designed using Wates’ proprietary Adapt Schools Solutions standardised approach.

The school will be open to boys of all faiths aged 11 to 18 years. Facilities will include an ‘Innovation and Aspirations Hub’, complete with 3D printing and laser cutting technology, as well as a sports hall, playing fields and a sixth form centre.

Construction has been procured through the Education Funding Agency (EFA) schools framework.
