Client is Leeds City Council and completion is scheduled for July 2014.
The 3,178 sq m building will enable the school to expand its capacity to 630 places. It will be built on the playing fields. When completed, the old 1960s building will be demolished to make way for new sports fields.
The project has been procured through the YORbuild construction framework available to the public sector in the region.
Wates is also due to start construction on the £3.1m Leeds Jewish Free School in Alwoodley, which will be the first Jewish secondary free school in the UK.
